The daisy-like petals are narrow, rolled, or quill-like in vivid shades of tangerine, red, deep coral, yellow, purple and cream surrounding a large brown cone. Spectacular display from mid summer to early fall.
Echinacea purpurea, commonly called purple coneflower, is a perennial that is native to the central to southeastern United States. Echinacea typically grows to 2-4′ tall with showy daisy-like flowers (to 5″ diameter) that bloom throughout the summer. A good fresh cut or dried flower. The dead flower cones may attract birds to the winter garden.
