SPRING TORCH HEATHER
Spring leaves emerge bright green with touches of yellow, pink. and dark red, deepening to dark green by early summer. In late summer masses of mauve flower spikes appear.
Commonly known as Scotch Heather, Calluna vulgaris are low growing perennial shrubs that are useful as ground covers or in rock gardens. Heathers are a nice complement to dwarf conifers and deciduous shrubs. More slightly taller varieties are also suited to mass plantings on hillsides. Plant in free-draining, humus-rich, acidic soil.
